My name is Sharon Gaskin, Founder of The Trainers Training Company. I work with freelance trainers to help them create successful and profitable training businesses. I have been running my own training business for 7 years and yes, it’s been a roller coaster ride! I made a lot of mistakes in my first year, I’ve been through challenging times but I now have an extremely successful business with clients such as Zurich, Europ Assistance and Lloyds Register Quality Assurance.

So many new freelance trainers go through a huge learning curve when they first start their business. I hear so many times, how people can waste so many precious weeks surfing the net, reading books and asking colleagues that it can be months before they generate any income let alone cover their business costs or make any profit.
Of course, some people will tell you that you can do fine without an understanding of basic business planning and that you can just rely on a handful of contacts to get you some work.
WRONG!
Just listen to the way they describe self-employment and freelance consultancy as a "feast and famine" way of making money. Take a look at the way their business generates lots of work for a few months of the year but then they always complain of several quiet periods where they struggle to make ends meet. The stress caused by this roller-coaster business pattern speaks for itself.
