As Hull City, Middlesborough, and Newcastle battle it out for their Premiership survival this weekend it has got me thinking about their experiences this season.
Hull City – Started off well, full of enthusiasm and motivation, the new boys that surprised many. But they soon ran out of ideas ….
Middlesborough – Could handle the good times but an inexperienced manager lost confidence and direction when things started to go wrong which was passed on to the rest of the team.
Newcastle – 3 managers in one season, impatient, unstable, they just haven’t stuck with anything long enough to see if it works.
Studying the fortunes of these teams gives you a blueprint for what not to do in your business!
The simple lessons to be learned are:
1. Just because you get your training business off to a great start by getting some work from your former employer or one of your contacts does not mean that it will last for ever! Many freelance trainers struggle after Year 1 because they didn’t pay enough attention to business planning right from the start.
2. Confidence is key. If you don’t believe in yourself and your business how can you expect your clients to?
3. Don’t expect instant results. Building relationships with people and converting them into clients, takes time, effort and patience! Do the same things regularly, consistently and well and don’t give up.
And whatever team you are supporting this weekend – Good Luck!
